The venerable Sourdough Slim & Robert Armstrong

A marvel of musical ingenuity, yodeling cowboy Sourdough Slim and string instrument wizard Robert Armstrong joyously rekindle the country blues, cowboy classics and string band repertoire of pre-WWII America. A fast-paced performance of music and comedy that showcases their seasoned gift for connecting with audiences. Whether capturing the haunting refrain of a Jimmie Rodgers blue yodel or swinging out a hot novelty number, everyone gets caught up in the fun these two cut-ups have on stage. Long time fans will remember them as founding members of two of California's favorite acoustic combo's, "8th Avenue String Band" and "R. Crumb's Cheap Suit Serenaders." Between them they share a provocative array of period instruments including: flat-top guitar, national steel, baritone and soprano ukulele, musical saw, accordion, six-string banjo and harmonica.

Well traveled veterans of stages ranging from Carnegie Hall and The Lincoln Center to The National Cowboy Gathering, Strawberry Music Festival and Prairie Home Companion, these modern day vaudevillians capture a sound and moment in time that consistently delights fun loving music fans everywhere they perform.

"First rate entertainment. A delightfully splendid show. . . full of good time music and laughs galore." - Diane Brinkman, Seattle Times

"You won't find better authentic Country or Western music being played anywhere."
              - David Barnes, British Archive of Country Music

"Much more invigorating than 9/10ths of the stuff you hear from the current cadre of Western revivalists." - Ronald Lankford, Jr., Sing Out! Magazine

"Good stuff!" - Dallas Dobro, Master of Ceremonies, Strawberry Music Festival

Compared to Flamenco Guitarists Jesse Cook and Ottmar Liebert, Nicholas stands out by adding flavors such as Salsa, Reggae, Rock, African and Middle Eastern music. He gracefully blends the ancient traditions of cultural music with modern, innovation, and a fresh approach to his original compositions.

FOOD ~ ART ~ WINE ~ MUSIC

It’s Extravaganza time again!

The Amador Schools Arts Foundation (ASAF) invites you to join in on an afternoon of food, art, wine, music and fun at Sierra Ridge Winery in an effort to raise money to help support the arts in all of the Amador County schools.

The date is Sunday, October 17, 2010 from 12:00 – 4:00 pm. The cost is only $20 at the door and wine tickets will be sold separately.

Great entertainment has been scheduled featuring "Over the Edge", "Herb Boxhorn", "Kundalini Belly Dancers", and the "Volcano Theater Company" for your listening and viewing pleasure.

Several different kinds of booths, along with the regular artists, will be on hand. Plan on attending this great Extravaganza to see what surprises are in store for you to enjoy all day while sampling some fantastic food by several local restaurants.  And, of course, there will be wine from Sierra Ridge Winery that you can buy as well!

Some of the local restaurants who will be available are Vintage Market, Taste, Bella Cucina, Imperial Hotel, Union Inn, Amador Café and Bakery, Back Roads, Jamba Juice, Memphis Tip Top Barbeque, House of Chantilly from El Dorado, Munnerlyn’s Ice Creamery, Stonehouse from Rancho Murieta, and even the Amador Farmer’s Market too!

This is the 3rd year for this event, and from the support from the restaurants and artists in Amador County, ASAF has been able to provide over $20,000 in grants, professional development, and other types of support for the teachers, students, and schools in the Amador County Unified School District.

Mark your calendar TODAY for Sunday, October 17, 2010 and join us at beautiful Sierra Ridge Winery for a fun-filled afternoon while helping raise money for local students at the same time!

Contact Toni Linde at taklinde@volcano.net or (209) 256-1750 for questions about the event.
